RootsTech for Newbies: Pre-Conference Prep

RootsTech for Newbies: Pre-Conference Prep

Part 2 of 3

Let's jump right back in.  You've got your RootsTech pass, you've registered for your add-ons and your travel is booked. What next?

INSTALL THE ROOTSTECH APP

You'll want to visit your app store and download the RootsTech mobile app. The app has everything from the conference schedule, week at a glance info, exhibitors, speakers, class syllabus & slides, maps of the conference and more. You can connect with friends and relatives through the app, schedule out your desired classes, and receive notifications of updates and information throughout the conference. It's got tons of helpful resources so go ahead and install it now. (Android | Apple)

PLANNING YOUR SCHEDULE

This is important! Don't skip this. PLUS it's incredibly fun! Probably my favorite stage of prep for RootsTech, this is when it gets real. If you haven't already you'll quickly find that with over 300 classes RootsTech can be a bit overwhelming, and the majority of classes are only taught once, so planning out a schedule of desired classes is critical to getting the most out of the conference. The app will allow you to star the classes you want to attend, which adds it to your schedule. Even better, it allows you to add more than one to your schedule per hour, which will be necessary because it's hard to pick.  You'll also want back-up options because you never know when a class will fill up. Having your class options on you schedule is also great because the app will notify you if there are any changes to that session. I recommend reading my post,

Picking Classes & Planning Your Schedule for RootsTech--A Guide for Newbies

to help you with the process, because it can be a bit overwhelming, but following these suggestions will make it a breeze.

FOLLOW ROOTSTECH ON SOCIAL MEDIA

A simple, but important, step is to be sure to follow RootsTech on your favorite social media platform. They post updates, announcements, reminders, changes, and a variety of helps, and it's always good to stay informed so you can get the most out of the conference. I also recommend following their "Road to RootsTech" series on YouTube. It's a fun way to get to know the RootsTech team and get some great info.
